This article contains information on the best apps for lowering the cost of prescription medications and save money. Consider using prescription drug apps if you rely on a medication whose cost is rising. They can assist you in comparing prices at local pharmacies.
But which app has the most financial savings potential? Let’s look at these apps together.
Save Money on Prescription
The cost of prescription drugs in the United States, at an annual average of $1,300 per person, is significantly higher than that of any other country in the world. They do, in fact, consume a significant quantity of pills. But what truly sets the United States apart from the majority of other countries is its relatively high prices.
To begin, I looked up the most commonly prescribed medications in the United States at the National Institutes of Health’s National Library of Medicine.
From there, I compared the prices of a few of the most popular medications on the apps listed below in alphabetical order:
- Blink Health
- GoodRx
- RxSaver
- SingleCare
- WellRx
In 2021, the top seven dispensing pharmacies in the United States generated more than 70% of prescription dispensing revenues: CVS Health, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Cigna, UnitedHealth Group, Walmart, Kroger, and Rite Aid. We can say that these applications are in agreement with this and many other pharmacies, that is, they have very strong ties.
GoodRx is most likely the most well-known prescription drug app. It is accepted at 70,000 locations nationwide by the largest network of participating pharmacies.
However, with numerous television advertisements, SingleCare has recently grown in popularity. Its network is half size of GoodRx’s, with 35,000 pharmacies participating.
In contrast to its two main competitors, RxSaver by RetailMeNot does not provide specifics about the size of its pharmacy network. Thousands of pharmacies across the country accept it, including CVS, Costco, Kroger, Walgreens, and Walmart.
Despite a large network of over 65,000 participating pharmacies, WellRx is not widely known.
Furthermore, Blink Health promotes a 35,000-strong nationwide network of participating pharmacies.
However, Blink Health has a slightly different pricing structure than its competitors. It has three pricing options: home delivery, everyday low prices, and Blink Smart Deals. For this comparison, I used the Everyday Low Price because it is the price offered at all Blink Health participating pharmacies.
We advise against combining the opportunities offered when purchasing medications from these applications with your health insurance because doing so will increase the profitability of your purchase from either the insurance or the application.
Prescription Medicines Price Comparison
In September 2022, I compared 15 of the most popular medications in the same dose and quantity. See what I discovered after comparing these five rivals in the table below.
The “walk-up prices” of all five competitors were sought after. A “walk-up price” is a price that can typically be accessed through an app without enrolling in a premium savings club or ordering your medications via mail.
I’ve highlighted the winning prescription drug app for each medication, even if there was a tie for first place between two or more apps:

Evaluation of the Outcomes
As you can see, in 10 of the 12 cases, SingleCare had the lowest price or was tied for the lowest price.
However, drug price differences between websites can be quite significant.
Despite lower drug-based profitability, the giant chain pharmacy brands, which will be affected by lower sales compared to non-chain pharmacies, are usually the ones that offer the lowest prices.

Final Remarks
This article highlights five of the many different apps that are available for managing prescription medications. If you are only going to download one or two apps, my recommendations would be SingleCare and GoodRx for the reasons that were just discussed.
You can always check the websites of each app to determine the price of a medication that is eating up an unreasonable amount of your budget before deciding which app (or apps) to download. This can help you decide which app(s) to download.
It is important to remember to reevaluate prices whenever you need to refill your prescription, whether it be every 30 or 90 days, if you want to ensure that you are paying the lowest price possible. Every time you need a refill, check with a different pharmacy to see if they have a lower price for the medication.
