Nivea is derived from the Latin word for “snow.” The perfume-containing brand expanded its market presence in the 1930s by introducing sunscreen, shaving cream, and shampoo. Lanolin was used in the first Nivea cream, which was introduced in 1911. Lanolin is derived from sheep’s wool and serves as the basis for Nivea’s proprietary formula.
